We manufacture high temperature & low temperature viscometers and our models BS/C & BE/C are specified for viscosity measurement by ACEA and SAE J300. The designated methods for these instruments are ASTM D 4741, CEC L-36-A-90 and IP 370 . Many will be aware that our competitors claim to achieve nearly 10 million reciprocal seconds shear rate. We do not believe this for sound and cogent reasons which we are happy to discuss with you. Ravenfield guarantee that they can achieve shear rates in excess of 2.5 million reciprocal seconds and can prove from fundamental principles that those results are valid, which is why the Ravenfield HTHS has the highest repeatability and reproducibility of any available HTHS test method.
 
 
High Temperature High Shear Viscometers BS/C Viscometer Ravenfield HTHS viscometers are the favoured testing equipment of European lubricant manufacturers. Ravenfield instruments are specified in the ACEA test regime. Model BE/C is designed solely for testing at 150°C and 1 million reciprocal seconds while our models BS/C and BS/C+ are full research grade instruments

Models BS/C & BS/C+ The top selling Ravenfield Viscometer is the HTHS Model BS/C. This instrument measures the High Temperature High Shear viscosity of engine lubricants according to ASTM D 4741, CEC L-36-A-90 & IP370 as specified by SAE J300 and ACEA. This high precision tapered plug viscometer runs under computer control with a simple to operate user interface. This semi-automatic instrument leads the operator through the calibration and measurement procedures. By joining the Model BS/C to the Model DR AutoSampler 18 oil samples can be tested without further operator intervention making the sample testing procedure fully automatic.

The standard model of BS/C is designed to measure at temperatures from 60°C to 180°C and shear rates from 100,000 to 1,500,000 reciprocal seconds.

There is even a facility to determine flow curves of oils automatically. It is now possible to automatically control cell temperature and recalibrate on the fly from samples on the carousel.

The BS/C+ is fitted with a more powerful motor which enables it to measure at lower temperatures and higher shear rates than the standard BS/C.

Model BE/C The Ravenfield Designs Viscometer HTHS Model BE/C also measures HTHS viscosity of engine lubricants according to the same standard test methods as both the BS/C and BS/C+. This manual high precision tapered plug viscometer is the entry level HTHS viscometer suitable for labs which only perform HTHS tests occasionally.

Model BE/C is designed to operate only under the standard conditions of 1,000,000 reciprocal seconds at 150°C.
