The Coldshear
viscometer was designed to simulate the standard low temperature test ASTM D
5293. Development of our compact, low energy consumption technology has led to
the CS-2 . The CS-2 not only correlates with ASTM D 5293 but is also a full
research grade rheometer.
The CS-2 Cranking Simulator is the most
recent development in the Coldshear range. It is designed to bring the best of
Ravenfield's HTHS experience to Low Temperature High Shear measurement. In its
standard operating mode this instrument correlates with ASTM D 5293 (formerly
ASTM D 2602), but is not limited to this; using high precision computer control
the instrument also measures under conditions of constant shear rate, constant
shear stress and constant speed. ASTM is currently organising a Round Robin to
generate a new test method.
The CS-2 is a self-contained, single unit
instrument requiring no extra refrigeration or PC equipment. In view of safety
concerns the integrated cooling system uses no methanol or other inflammable
and volatile cooling fluids. The instrument is controlled using a touchscreen
interface.
Calibration can be achieved with a single low temperature
viscosity standard and sample volume required is also kept to a minimum. While
still retaining its small footprint the standard CS-2 has now been integrated
with the Model DR AutoSampler which allows automatic measurement of up to 18
oil samples without further operator intervention. |

| Model CS-2W If a
"budget" model be required the CS-2W option is available. The CS-2W is
functionally identical to the CS-2 except for the absence of the AutoSampler
which can of course be retrofitted if required. The retrofitting of the
AutoSampler could even be carried out by the customer in their own laboratory
in about thirty minutes. |
