The Models 3500 and
the 3500 LS+ are critical tool for oil well drilling and completion.
The viscosity of drilling and completion fluids is critical to their
performance and to the ability to pump and place them as needed. Among the many
problems possible due to a too high or too low a viscosity are difficult or
impossible pumping and placement and an inability to carry cuttings or
materials from bore to the surface.
The model 3500 and 3500LS +
viscometer are designed to measure the viscosity of test fluids by measuring
shear stress st specific shear rates. These viscometer are concentric cylinder
rotational viscometers which are the standard instruments referred to in
industry standards as API spec 10, and API RP 39. For testing at above ambient
temperatures , an optional thermal cup is available for heating the rotor and
bob assembly to temperatures as high as 194 Deg F. |

| The model 3500 and
35000 LS + viscometers measure viscosity by applying shear rate on the test
fluid within the annular space between the outside sleeve or rotor and the bob.
The amount of shear transmitted through the fluid is measured by the angular
displacement of the bob. The angular displacement yields a dial reading, which
corresponds with the viscosity of the fluid. |
